Our 12 faculties span the sciences and humanities, anchored by a library of 2.4 million volumes and 38 research institutes.

History

A century and a half in Berlin.

  1. 1872

    Founded by royal charter as Hochberg Akademie.

  2. 1921

    First doctoral degrees awarded in the natural sciences.

  3. 1968

    Faculty of Social Sciences established.

  4. 2004

    Joined the European University Alliance.

  5. 2024

    New Center for AI & Society opens at the Mitte campus.
